100 Acres of Rainforest Protected by Justin Sather

My name is Justin Sather. I am 13 years old and live in California. In kindergarten, I learned frogs were dying from pollution, pesticides, rising temperatures, and people cutting down their homes. When I discovered frogs are indicator species, I knew it was a clear sign that our planet needs help. When I learned that almost half the rainforests have been destroyed and could disappear in 100 years I really wanted to make a difference.  I joined a group called Reserva that has helped me protect some of the most biodiverse rainforests in the world. So far, I’ve raised $40,000 and protected 100 acres in Ecuador. I had a Run for the Rainforest, a Raffle for the Rainforest, and even sold toy frogs to reach my goal. Then I started a Go Fund Me Campaign and shared it on podcasts, newspapers, and even the news and was awarded a Go Fund Me Kid Hero.  I'm most proud of collecting letters from students worldwide. I have collected 1,700 letters and each one raises $3 which protects a classroom size of land on the reserve in Ecuador.  The letters alone protected 14 acres of rainforest. It feels amazing to reach my 100 acre goal on my 13th birthday. Now my mission is to continue to protect the rainforest and oceans and lakes until 30% of our planet is protected by 2030.
